After five previous attempts, Leonado DiCaprio finally has an Oscar to call his own.  The 41-year-old actor chased down that dish of raw bison liver with a Best Actor trophy for his rugged performance in The Revenant, a win that was expected and yet still satisfying based on the miles DiCaprio has had to travel to get to the podium. Not that he complained about the wait.  “Thank you all so very much,” he told the crowd, which had risen to its collective feet for a standing ovation. “Thank you to the Academy, thank you to all of you in this room.”      

According to a news report,  Nigeria's finance ministry said Sunday that it had saved millions of dollars for the cash-strapped government by removing more than 20,000 "ghost workers" from the state payroll. The eliminated ghost workers represented just a "percentage" of "non-existent" staff who had been receiving monthly wages, highlighting the brazen corruption in Africa's biggest economy.

  A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Bola Tinubu, has described the state of the nation as difficult but encouraging. Members of the Senior Staff Association of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) have still shut down the operations of the Agency in Abuja on account of the appointment of a new Executive Secretary from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). 

 The Senior Staff of the PPPRA staged the protest in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Saturday. The Branch Chairman of the Association, Mr Victor Ononokpono told reporters  that the reason why they have continued to reject the new appointment by the Federal Government is to enable the agency perform its duties without interference from the government or other players in the sector. According to news report, some 154 pounds of cocaine was found and   seized during an inspection of a container vessel at Port Everglades , the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports. The contraband was found in a burlap sack by CBP officers during an inspection of the vessel's containers. The estimated street value of the drugs, found aboard the vessel arriving from Guayaquil, Ecuador, is USD 2 million. During the inspection of an empty container, a CBP canine alerted to the presence of narcotics and CBP officers discovered a duffel bag full of brick shaped objects. The substance tested positive to the properties of cocaine. The evidence was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further processing. The Italian company according to media report, has been given the go ahead to contruct and install a floating Liquefied natural gas facility in the country, offshore Mozambique. The new facility will be It located 2000 meters deep and approximately 80km offshore   of the palma bay in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. The CEO of Eni,  Claudio Descalzi,  was quoted to have said that the project will see "the installation of the first newly built floating LNG facility in Africa". The  Council of Ministers, get the approval and this is also similar to the  first phase of development of 5 trillion cubic feet of gas in the Coral discovery made in May 2012. Under the Area 4 development plan, the first one to be approved in the Rovuma Basin, apart from the FLNG facility, six subsea wells are expected to be drilled. The discovery is estimated to contain around 16 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas in place.

At least four policemen have been reported killed in what initially looked like an attack from the BokoHaram group, on a police post in Yola Adamawa state Nigeria today. A report just reaching us, suggest that the Delta state Police command has arrested ten suspected oil thieves and a tanker vessel. The statement by the police command said, the suspects were caught by the Nigerian Navy stealing 470,000 litres of crude within the state waterways around the Forcados Terminal, in Burutu Local Government Area of the state.
