PHOTO:Dario Gradi blames Alex Ferguson for Nick Powell’s Manchester United decline!

According to media report, Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure is the reason Nick Powell failed at Manchester United, according to his old manager Dario Gradi.

The Crewe Alexandra director of football joked that Powell might have got more of a look-in at Old Trafford if the Scot had stuck around, with his successors seemingly not rating him.

Ferguson initially signed Powell from Crewe in 2012, and had a superb track record of getting the best out of young players and bringing them into the Red Devils’ first-team.
However, the legendary boss retired from football just a year later, leading to a notable change of approach at the club.

Powell was released by United this summer after miserable spells under both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, and Gradi wonders how things might have gone if he’d had the chance to work under Ferguson for longer.

Gradi : ‘Alex put Nick in the team, and in fact if Alex had stayed who knows? I blame Alex!’
