The British driver started second on the grid but immediately overtook his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, who endured a torrid time at his home grand prix. Rosberg slumped to fourth off the start-line, which is where he ultimately finished, having started on pole. He was then later hit with a five-second time penalty for an overzealous pass on Max Verstappen. It means Hamilton heads into the summer break with a 19-point lead over title rival Rosberg – a remarkable turnaround considering the three-time world champion was 43-points adrift of his team-mate at one stage.

According to media report, Manchester City have told Everton they will not be held to ransom over John Stones, as   City have had a £40million bid for the England defender turned down by  Everton , who want £50m. But    insist they will not go higher than their £40m valuation and will look elsewhere if that bid is not accepted. Stones is desperate to join up with new City manager Pep Guardiola and has told Everton of his desire to leave.

r According to Chelsea have had a £57million bid for Lukaku rejected by Everton - but are confident of agreeing a deal to re-sign him this summer. The two clubs are haggling over a fee, with Everton holding out for a club-record £75million. But they  have  finally accepted the 23-year-old striker is determined to rejoin the club they bought him off two years ago. Chelsea’s bid for Lukaku is more than double the £28m they received for him when he moved to Goodison Park in the summer of 2014. Boss Antonio Conte has already landed one Belgium international striker, £33m Michy Batshuayi  from Marseille, this summer and remains confident of keeping Spain frontman Diego Costa  despite sustained interest from his former club Atletico Madrid

  According to report, Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has suggested his client will complete a transfer to Manchester United but insists it’s not done yet. The Juventus midfielder has been strongly tipped to finalise a move to Old Trafford in the coming days, with latest reports claiming Jose Mourinho wants it done in 48 hours. However, Raiola believes the press in both the UK and Italy are jumping the gun and just competing to get the story out first, describing them as ‘parrots’.

According to media report, Russian athletes avoided a blanket ban from the Games but the IWF has taken action after 'extremely shocking and disappointing' doping results from Russian weightlifters. Weightlifting has become the first sport to impose an outright ban on Russian competitors in Rio. "The integrity of the weightlifting sport has been seriously damaged on multiple times and levels by the Russians," the IWF said in a statement. "Therefore an appropriate sanction was applied in order to preserve the status of the sport".   The eight spots allocated to Russian weightlifters have been offered to other countries.

Schweinsteiger revealed the news on his social media platforms on Friday morning with a message for Germany fans. "Dear Germany fans, I have asked the manager not to consider me for inclusion in the natonal side any longer as I would like to retire. "My thanks go to the fans, the team, the DFB, the coaches and support team around the Germany national team. "I was able to run out for my country in 120 internationals and experience moments which were indescribably beautiful and successful.

According to media report, Arsenal hope of signing Riyad Mahrez could go through in the next 48 hours, as there are reports that the Leicester winger has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal. The Algeria international has been strongly linked with a  £40m  move to the Emirates   A source close to the player, told reporters that terms regarding salary, length of contract and bonuses have been in place for ‘some time already’, and is just a matter of time now, for the player to move. But I doubt if Leicester City would allow Mahrez leave, giving his vital contributions to the team last season…but they let Kante leave…

  According to media report, the Coach of the Nigerian Dream team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil, has lamented on the conditions the Nigerian Football Federation has subjected him and his coaching crew to and want the President to come to their aid, as they look forward to fly the country flag in Rio. Nigeria will play their first match against Japan on 4 August, and the Coach is worried, the situation might affect the moral of his team and the entire preparation if nothing is done urgently. Siasia said Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) owes him and the coaches five months’ salary arrears, while no allowance has been paid to the team in the last five months, and the team have been abandoned in the USA, where they are preparing for the Olympics.
