Brussels attacks: Terror arrests made in Germany, Italy and Turkey in wake of Belgian atrocities!!
According to report, three men have been arrested by police in Germany on suspicion of terror offences in the latest of a wave of arrests across Europe to take place following the Brussels attacks this morning.
German media is reporting that three Kosovan men have been arrested on a motorway between Munich and Salzburg after travelling from the Belgian capital.
The arrests follow others made on suspicion of terrorist offences in both Turkey and Italy, with more than people arrested.
An earlier incident at Amsterdam’s central station has been ruled out of having terror connection and, as yet, there is nothing liking these further arrests to the attacks in Brussels.
At
least 34 people were killed and 170 injured in the attacks
on Zaventem Airport and Maalbeek metro station.
But
the arrests exemplify an increase in activity from police across Europe, with
raids taking place across Belgium this evening.
Police
confirmed they found a nail bomb, chemicals and Islamic flag in the Schaerbeek
district at a property linked to Najim Laachraoui, one of the men believed
to be connected to the Paris attacks.
Three
men, including two foreigners, were arrested in Turkey suspected of planning
another attack in Istanbul, while security forces also captured 10 men
suspected of being linked to the Islamic State group in southern Turkey.
Anadolu
Agency says security operations targeted three different Istanbul addresses
based on information gathered by the Turkish anti-terrorism agency and German
intelligence services. A Turkish national, an Iraqi and a Syrian were detained
In
the southern province of Gaziantep, 10 men were detained after being caught
trying to enter the country illegally from Syria. One was wearing a suicide
vest.
An
Iraqi identified by French and Belgian authorities as having contact with
terrorists was arrested on a European warrant in Italy.
Italy’s
interior minister Angelino Alfano said the Iraqi was arrested near Naples, but
he did not elaborate on whether the connection was directly related to the
attacks in Brussels, or the November attacks in Paris.
Meanwhile
in Amsterdam, Dutch officers fired warning shots during the arrests of three
suspects at the central station.
A witness told a Reuters reporter at the scene
he heard a shot being fired and saw a suspect running
The
area around the central station was cordoned off and there was a heavy police
presence.
‘I
saw a guy running and a lot of police on top of him,’ said Armen Zadoorian.
Police
halted an international train from Brussels to Amsterdam earlier this afternoon
just one stop from Schiphol Airport as a precaution.
Local
police said on Twitter that Hoofddorp station had been evacuated and will stay
closed until the investigation is completed. Passengers were being put up in
nearby hotels.
There was no immediate word of any arrests and police did not say what prompted
them to stop the train.
The
incident came just hours after deadly attacks on the Brussels airport and a
city subway station.
