According to a media report, Sam Sodje and his three brothers have been
alleged to have used £26,000 raised for their charity for personal shopping, as
a court hears their case today.
The Sam Sodje Sports Foundation was said to have been set up in 2008, to
raise some money to help “Nigeran Sport”, and Sam Sodje was reported to be
involved in the Foundation during his playing period at Reading in the
2006-2007 season in England.
The said Foundation have been alleged to be the source of a lavish life
styles of the Sodjes..Sam 35, Efe 34, Stephen 42, and Bright 50...the monies
were said to have been their means to sustain their expensive lifestyles, and
they are charged for a one count of carrying on a business which they tagged “Foundation”
to fraudulently defraud creditors
The Westminster
Magistrates' Court where the charges were read to all four brothers, they all denied
any wrongdoing.
The crimes which were
committed in the year 2008-2013, enjoyed all privileges of a Charity organisation.
The prosecutor while
reading out the charges, said: "They are all charged effectively with
fraudulent trading relating to a charity they ran called the Sodje Sports
Foundation."
A former Nigerian
international, Sam also made appearance for Watford, West Brom, Reading,
Brentford, Charlton Athletic, Leeds United, Notts County and Portsmouth.
