PHOTO: Angry man pays £1,800 council tax bill all in PENNIES!LOL
Russell Skellett
was left furious at the fact he was ordered to pay £1,851.94 in council tax,
after buying two houses in Eastwood, next to his own home on Three Tuns
Road.
He
thinks both houses were bought in poor condition, he does not legally need
to pay council tax on either, he told the Eastwood Advertiser.
Russell was
taken to court, and although still feels the homes are in no fit state for
living in, he has been forced to pay the hefty bill.
But, he decided
if he was going to pay up, it wasn’t going to be with ease.
He went to the
bank, to ask to take out the £1,851.94 for his bill. How did he ask for it? In
pennies. Yep, Seriously.
There was so
much change that it had to be delivered to his house. And after receiving the
bundles of coins, that weighed three-quarters of a ton (750kg), Russell had to
transport it to the council office in a lorry – using two shopping trollies –
as it was too heavy to put in his car.
Russell, who still
doesn’t believe he should paying council tax, as he says the two properties,
which haven’t been lived in for two years, have no electricity, gas or running
water.
He has warned
the council: ‘For as long as I have to pay council tax on these properties, I
will keep coming down and paying in pennies.’
While Broxtowe
Borough Council have refused to comment on Russell’s claims, he has now
obtained a demolition order and is currently waiting for the buildings to
be pulled down over the next coming weeks.
