Members of the
Senior Staff Association of the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency
(PPPRA) have still shut down the operations of the Agency in Abuja on account
of the appointment of a new Executive Secretary from the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Senior Staff
of the PPPRA staged the protest in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Saturday.
The Branch
Chairman of the Association, Mr Victor Ononokpono told reporters that the
reason why they have continued to reject the new appointment by the Federal
Government is to enable the agency perform its duties without interference from
the government or other players in the sector.
According to
him, the appointment of a new Executive Secretary from the NNPC would stifle
operations of the PPPRA.
Oil workers
under the aegis of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of
Nigeria (PENGASSAN) shut down operations of the Petroleum Products Pricing
Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The workers
protested the alleged imposition of an acting Executive Secretary on the
agency.
The Chairman of
PENGASSAN, PPPRA Branch, Mr Victor Ononokpono, led the protest staged on
Tuesday, February 23.
