PHOTO:Emotional Zlatan Ibrahimovic bows out on a low, as Sweden lost 0-1 to Belgium in final group game to finish bottom of the group!
Zlatan Ibrahimovic who played his final game for Sweden, was disappointed that his team couldn’t qualify for the final round of 16 in Euro 2016.
Zlantan had earlier
announced his retirement from the national team this week, was hoping to leave
on a high, as he was playing his final game with Belgium, the team they lost
to, after playing so well!
Sweden's 1-0 defeat to Belgium with Radja Nainggolan's late
stunner from 25 yards on Wednesday evening confirmed that they would finish
bottom of Group E, and confirming their elimination from the competition.
“I had wanted him to
have a better ending than this,” said coach Erik Hamren, who is also leaving
his role with Sweden after
the team return home.
“If I think about trying to find the new Zlatan, no [we can't],”
added a crestfallen Hamren.
“He is special. He is unique.
“I hope we can find another players who are good but in a small
country like Sweden, no, I don’t think we’ll find another Zlatan.”
Ahead of the match,
Ibrahimovic told reporters: "The last game (at Euro 2016) will be my last
for Sweden, so I hope it will not be tomorrow.
"I am very proud of what I have achieved and will always
bring the Swedish flag with me."
He added: "Disappointment doesn't exist, only pride. I'm
very grateful to all the supporters.
"To finish with a disappointment - never."
Ibrahimovic made his debut for Sweden against the Faroe Islands
in 2001 before being named in their squad for the 2002 World Cup.
He also played at the World Cup in Germany four years later and
has appeared in four separate European Championships
