PHOTO:Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal warns Manchester United over ‘opportunistic’ Jose Mourinho
According to report, Real
Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has hit out at former boss Jose Mourinho’s
attitude towards young players, sending a harsh warning to new club Manchester
United.
The Portuguese has
de veloped a reputation for failing to develop young players, with none of
Chelsea’s hugely successful academy trusted enough to play in the first team
during his tumultuous second spell at the club.
Similarly, Carvajal was
sold to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 when Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu,
but impressed so much the club activated their buy-back clause.
He has since won the
Champions League twice and nailed down his status as Madrid’s first-choice
right-back, and he believes Mourinho was far too hasty in his decision to
offload him – as he has done with a number of young players in his career.
‘Mourinho was a bit
opportunistic,’ Carvajal told Marca .
‘When I returned he’d
say that I’d needed that year away. And if I hadn’t done well then he’d have
said that I wasn’t good enough to play for Madrid.
‘If it happened, I was
good. If it hadn’t happened, I was bad. I think I was already perfectly ready
for the first team.’
Many critics fear
Mourinho will pursue established stars – such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic – rather
than place his faith in youngsters at Manchester United, with Louis van Gaal
having given game time to a host of academy starlets.
