According to media report, Arsene Wenger and Gunners are hoping to go one better than the
second place finish they recorded in the Premier League last season and land a
first title win since 2004 next term.
Speaking after the 2-1
victory over the MLS All-Stars on Thursday, Wenger suggest the EPL this time is
going to be a ‘big ask’ for Arsenal and sees his team doing better. He said:
‘I personally believe
that no matter what you do, it’s never enough. You have to give absolutely
everything to take the best out of the team.
‘I believe that we know what we have to do,
because we were second last year, we had 18 teams behind us.
‘It is a big ask,
because when you look at the Premier League, every club is hugely ambitious.’
Wenger also had his say
on some of the recent transfer dealings conducted by British clubs, where
splashing big cash on new recruitments appears par for the course.
While rivals Manchester
United appear set to part with around £100million to bring Paul Pogba back to
Old Trafford, Wenger has spent £35m on landing Granit Xhaka, while Chelsea and
Liverpool have also been paying out on new players.
‘You look at the cheques
that everybody signs and it’s quite scary,” Wenger added.
‘That’s what the Premier
League is about at the moment.’
