According to media
report, Belgium have announced that former Everton and Wigan boss Roberto
Martinez as their new manager.
Belgium removed former
head coach Marc Wilmots after Euro 2016, with their undoubtedly talented squad
failing to get to the latter stages.
Martinez has come in for
sustained criticism for his seeming inability to create a solid defence.
It will be interesting
to see if this reputation follows him on to the international scene, or
if having the likes of Vincent Kompany and Toby Alderweireld at his
disposal will improve the 43-year-old.
In terms of former
players, Everton’s Kevin Mirallas is probably unhappy to hear the news after
being frozen out of the starting line up under the coach at Goodison Park.
Meanwhile, Martinez sold
Marouane Fellaini immediately after arriving at Everton, but did sign and give
Romelu Lukaku a prominent place in his side.
