Wayne Rooney Testimonial:Manchester United fail to impress as they were held 0-0 by Everton

According to media report, Manchester United didn’t exactly amaze the home crowd in their first game at Old Trafford under new manager Joe Mourinho.

The Red Devils played out a bore draw 0-0 with the Toffees, with the best chances of the match perhaps going to Everton’s Kevin Mirallas and Romelu Lukaku in the first half.
United looked the stronger of the two sides in the first 45 minutes, but Everton came back in to it in the second period after both teams had made many substitutions.

Here are the players who impressed and disappointed for Manchester United in the encounter…
First the positives…
Marcus Rashford
The 18-year-old came on for Wayne Rooney a few minutes in to the second half, and gave the stilted United team some extra energy in the final third.
He may not have hit the back of the net, but the England international did put some dangerous balls in to the box and cause trouble for an obdurate Everton in the channels.
Had some of his teammates been more composed then Rashford could have come away with some assists from the encounter.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
While the Swede didn’t reach the heights he can, the 34-year-old was able to show fans some of what he can bring to the side.
Regularly dropping deep to help the midfield, Ibrahimovic showed a good touch and passing ability when further back and made good runs when in the final third.
Jose Mourinho will hope that the experienced forward can build on this ahead of facing Leicester City in the Community Shield this weekend.

David De Gea
As usual, the goalkeeper was in great form, making one brilliant save from a Ross Barkley shot in particular.
This has come to be expected from the Spaniard, but several of his sharp stops were what stopped United from an embarrassing defeat in the testimonial.
And the negatives…
Morgan Schneiderlin
After bossing the midfield in the first half, United brought on Schneiderlin in the second and seemed to almost immediately lose control.

The Frenchman regressed under Louis van Gaal last season, and it seems that Mourinho hasn’t been able to turn that around yet.
If Paul Pogba does arrive before the end of the transfer window, then it could be Schneiderlin who sees his place in the squad come under fire.
Memphis Depay
Another who appeared to go backwards under the old regime, Depay made very little impact on the match.
Seamus Coleman was able to keep the 22-year-old quiet without much exertion after he came on, and the Dutchman could be another who finds his place in danger soon.

It even got to the point where Rooney was seen laughing after Depay attempted a overhead kick in the dying minutes.
Marouane Fellaini
Anyone who thought Mourinho would be the man to finally turn Fellaini in to a midfielder, if there was anyone, is sorely mistaken.
Like Schneiderlin, the Belgian came on at half time, and contributed to the team losing control of the match.
Everton’s young Tom Davies was able to show up the lanky 28-year-old with his technical ability, and links to former boss David Moyes’ Sunderland may be the get-out that Fellaini needs.
