PHOTO: Guardiola praises himself and style of play after Monaco win, saying ‘this is why they wanted me to come’
The Champions league game between Manchester City and Monaco, last
night, without a doubt, was one of the best games ever seen in the history of the
Champions league, if not football...and the Manchester City coach, Pep
Guardiola is giving himself all the credits for the win...
Guardiola and his team has struggled in the Premier league with their style
of play, and if there is anything we learned about both teams last night, is
that they both enjoy playing attacking football, but defensively, very
poor...
...and that is what Guardiola needs to focus on and stop praising himself
for conceding three goals at home, while scoring five...they could have easily gone down four to five goals in the second half, if not for the lack of composure in front of goal by the Monaco players...
The tie is not won yet, and Manchester will do themselves alot of favour
not to play the way they played at home, as Monaco has also shown, they can
score when they want to, and can also defend, which I think is what they will
do, in the second leg...
While speaking after the game, the Manchester City coach, said:
‘We attacked in small spaces, we defended huge spaces behind, Guardiola
said after the match.
‘That is why they wanted me to come here – I love to play in that way, I
think it is something special when two teams play in that way, attack and
attack. In the end the football is marvellous.
‘It was a special game, I cannot deny that. Ups and downs. We attacked
quite good, our build-up was quite slow, but it was not easy because Monaco are
so organised.’
Despite some unconvincing defending on the night, Guardiola argued that
there are few teams who could stop this in-form Monaco side scoring at the
moment.
‘I would like to see how many teams are able to get a clean sheet
against Monaco this season. They have fantastic players,’ he added.
‘They always arrived with six, seven players and I haven’t seen a team
attack with so many good players for a long time.
‘We understood immediately they are going to
attack with runs in behind. It is so, so difficult but we created a lot of
chances and I don’t know if Monaco have seen a team create as many chances as
we did against
