PHOTO: Aftermath of Referee attack, Uruguayan FA released a statement calling off all games
The Uruguayan football association after the attack on two of their officials during a game, has called off all Sunday games. The move was to protest the continued attack on match officials, and to reduce the rate of increased violence in the country, especially against women. The statement reads:
"Given the resolution by the Uruguayan Association of Football Referees to not take charge of games, the AUF has suspended all activities for this Sunday (24/9) in all disciplines and categories".
The decision as reported by Marca means the cancellation of five first division matches as well as others at lower levels. Investigations are still on going, and further statements to be released pending the outcome of their investigation.
