Gene Simmons Breaks His Silence On Scary Malibu Car Wreck
The 76-year-old musician, who is famous for
playing bass and co-lead vocals for the hard rock band KISS, said the
wreck was just a minor 'fender bender.'
On Wednesday, Gene Simmons addressed the October 9 incident, in
which he reportedly passed out while
driving down the Pacific Coast Highway and ended up
crashing into another vehicle.
Gene Simmons was reportedly hospitalized in Los Angeles after the collision.
However, he referred to earlier reports by media outlets as 'fake news'
and said the crash was 'blown out of proportion,' per TMZ.
Earlier this month, the front of his SUV
crashed into the front of a truck parked on the side of the road, according to
photos obtained by the outlet.
Simmons's wife Shannon Tweed said
that he was 'extremely dehydrated' due to starting a new medication and 'not
liking to drink water.'
She said he 'passed out' due to dehydration
after she previously told him she did not want him to drive anymore, per the
outlet.
In his most recent sighting in the video
obtained by the outlet, he was seen back behind the wheel and said he was
'trying to be incognito.'
'There are much more important things than
whether I crashed my car,' he said.
Following the incident he took to social
media and joked about being a 'horrible driver.'
Gene Simmons thanked everyone for their words
of encouragement and joked about being a 'horrible' driver.
'Thanks, everybody, for the kind wishes. I'm
completely fine. I had a slight fender bender. It happens. Especially to those
of us were horrible drivers. And that's me. All is well,' he posted the day
after his accident.
Earlier this month, in the week following his 'fender bender,'
Simmons's KISS bandmate, guitarist Ace Frehley, died.
Frehley passed away at the age of 74 on October 16 after suffering a brain bleed that left
him on life support.
While
grieving, he and his bandmate Paul Stanley issued a joint statement to The
Hollywood Reporter, leading the emotional tributes to the late rock
legend.
'I
am devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley,' the statement read. 'He was an
essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative
foundational chapters of the band and its history.'
The
pair added: 'He is and will always be a part of KISS's legacy. My thoughts are
with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around
the world.'
KISS
was formed in 1973 in New York City with Simmons, Stanley, Frehley and Peter
Criss as the original founding members.
Frehley
had been the lead guitarist for the band and was also known for inventing the
persona called The Spaceman.
He
performed with the group until he left in 1982 and proceeded to form his own
band Frehley's Comet.
Frehley
later joined KISS once again in 1996 for a reunion tour but would depart from
the rock band in 2002.
KISS
was known for a number of hits such as Rock And Roll All Nite, I Was Made For
Lovin' You and Detroit Rock City.
